Ducati Diavel 1260 Bike Overview
The original Ducati Diavel 1200, launched in 2010, was a big hit straight away, with its hugely capable engine and chassis package, in a superb styling package. It looked amazing, and went even better.
For 2019 then, Ducati gave it a bit of an upgrade, adding the latest 1,262cc version of its superbike-derived V-twin Testastretta engine to the mix, together with new electronics, colour LCD dash and styling tweaks. That engine uses Ducati’s variable valve timing setup, which alters the timing of the inlet and exhaust cams at different revs. This gives broader torque, but also helps Ducati meet tighter exhaust emissions regs.
There’s now Bosch Cornering ABS setup, which improves safety when braking in a bend, and you also get three riding power modes.
Ducati also tweaked the chassis, with a new steel tube frame and revised suspension settings. The base bike has Marzocchi forks and shock, while the pricier ‘S’ version has higher-spec Öhlins suspension front and rear.
Finally, the ‘S’ model has more powerful brakes: Brembo M50 four-piston calipers rather than the lower-spec Brembo M4.32 units.
On the road, the Diavel 1260 is a proper beast. The engine has *almost too much* torque, with great shattering gobbets of grunt torturing the poor 240-section rear tyre. There’s not much on the road which will beat it away from the lights – but it’s not just a straight-line machine. There’s enough ground clearance to hustle in bends, and the chassis package is well up to keeping everything in check. It’s laden with tech – colour LCD dash, advanced rider aids package, Bluetooth connection – and the low seat means any rider can sample its delights. The downside? It’s not cheap to buy or run – but the higher resale value in a Ducati goes some way to compensate.

A better looking standard exhaust would save the expense of the full system.

It’s going to be expensive, I could preface every comment box with ‘it’s a Ducati’. Surprisingly, fuel economy is good at nearly 60mpg
Panel fit looks good. Too soon to tell on reliability but from previous experience Ducati have buried those gremlins
As above, it’s astonishing for a big bike. Brembo M50s haul it up much quicker than you’d expect.
