Tuning-fork firm unveils new metal updates in Milan

Yamaha had released a load of 2022 machinery in previous weeks, but it kept a few treats in reserve for the EICMA Milan show today.

First up is this saucy Rally Raid prototype version of the Ténéré 700. It’s a full race upgrade, designed for the likes of the Dakar Rally, with super-long travel suspension, race dash and heaps of GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) parts. It’s a show-bike prototype at the moment, but this sort of thing generally hits production a year later at Yamaha.

This uses ‘spool valve’ damping mechanism technology, for faster and more precise adjustment on the fly. The new MT-10 SP also gets a new belly-pan, and braided steel brake hoses.

The Yamaha R6 has been a track-only bike for a couple of years now, and is sold in non-road-legal form, like a competition offroad bike. There are two new variants for 2022: the base R6 Race, and a new R6 GYTR model.

The R6 Race comes with black bodywork and gold forks, and the classic 16-valve inline-four 599cc supersports engine. The GYTR model is a more race-oriented variant, which comes with a slew of track upgrades. There’s a supplied ABS emulator so you can dump the ABS pump, a full titanium Akprapovic exhaust system, and best of all, a fully programmable Supersport-spec ECU already wired in.

It looks awesome in the white race bodywork, and is as close to a racer-in-a-box as you can get.
