Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR Bike Overview
Aprilia’s Tuono (Italian for ‘Thunder’) was the thinking lunatic’s super-naked machine long before we even knew what a super-naked was. Back in 2002, the Noale nutters ripped the fairing off its RSV Mille V-twin superbike, kept almost all the power and chassis tech, and released it as the Tuono Racing. It instantly went to the top of the crazy charts – matching superbike power and tech with an upright naked riding position was a big hit. Together with bikes like Triumph’s Speed Triple, it formed a new class, laying the foundations for the likes of Yamaha’s MT-10, KTM’s Super Duke and the Ducati Streetfighter range.
The old V-twin Tuono was a top machine, but Aprilia moved things on massively in 2012 when the firm launched a V-four version, using the engine and chassis from the RSV4 superbike as a foundation. The initial 1000 version added a heap of performance and madness, and three years later, Aprilia bumped the capacity up to 1,077cc, producing the 175bhp 1100 version currently on sale
As you’d expect with a genuine superbike chassis, the Tuono handles incredibly well, with stonking Brembo brakes, sticky Pirelli rubber and fully adjustable suspension. Class-leading electronics package up advanced traction, wheelie and launch control suites, with power modes, quickshifter, and full colour LCD dash all rounding off a superb package. It’s a pricey beast – but well worth the cash we reckon.
