A guide to Indian Motorcycles

Indian set World Records!

Indian, an American motorcycle manufacturer, appeared on the scene in 1901 with prototypes being designed, built and tested. The following year the first Indian motorcycle, featuring chains drives and streamlined styling, was on sale to the public making the signature deep red frame colouring Indian’s trademark design.

Indian co-found and chief engineer, Oscar Hedstrom set the world record motorcycle speed at 56mph! After that Indian rocketed in popularity becoming the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world and were chosen by the New York Police as their desired mode of transport.

Luxury motorcycles

Indian motorcycles incorporate the Harley- Davidson vibe with low seat and high bar – not forgetting the classic leather covered bike seat with added fringing, Indian’s ooze adventure, long winding roads and luxury.

After a brief period of bankruptcy during the 1950’s, a number of organisations tried to replicate and restyle the Indian brand but with very little success. It wasn’t until 2011 when Polaris Industries purchased Indian Motorcycles, they have successfully been able to market three modern Indian motorcycles that reflect the traditional styling.
