First Look: 2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP2 and updates

Published: October 20, 2022

Ducati’s released its latest set of 2023 machinery updates today, with a slew of tweaks to the V4 and V4 S, as well as a new SP2 track-friendly variant.

Much of the change comes from the previous mods made to the Panigale superbike, which forms the base of the Streetfighter engine and chassis package. That means altered frame geometry, with a higher swingarm pivot and other detail mods, which Ducati claims improves stability and precision, as well as putting more weight over the front end to give better corner entry speed.

The suspension package remains much the same, with semi-active electronic Öhlins SmartEC2.0 control, 43mm NIX30 USD forks and a TTX36 rear monshock unit on the V4 S. The V4 base model gets cheaper (but still sweet) Showa BPF forks and a Sachs rear monoshock.

On the electronics front, the Streetfighters also get the updates pioneered on the Panigale, with new Power Modes logic, albeit with revised settings to suit the naked layout. There are four settings, Full, High, Medium and Low, with power output and throttle response set appropriately for each mode – the Low setting makes ‘just’ 165bhp, so perfectly suitable for novices…

There’s a new Wet riding mode, with even steadier interventions to make life easier on slippery surfaces, and the 5” full colour TFT dashboard also gets a bit of a tickle up. That includes a new Track Evo display mode which claims to replicate the display on the Desmosedici MotoGP machine. Engine brake control and the Ducati quick shifter both get new strategies to further enhance handling and performance, especially on track.

The bodywork remains mostly as you were, with the aerodynamic wings, but the fuel tank is reshaped as it’s been on the Panigale, adding a litre of capacity (now up to 17 litres) and giving better support to the rider under braking and cornering.

The 1,103cc Desmosedici Stradale V-four engine is largely unchanged, still putting out 208bhp@13,000rpm, but getting some detail remapping to suit the tweaked exhaust. It also gets a new Panigale clutch cover.
