Giacomo Agostini has been a part of the MV Agusta story since the mid-1960s. First as a GP racer, where he won seven 500cc and six 350cc championships for the firm between 1966 and 1973. He was the Valentino Rossi of his era – cool, calm, classy, and almost unbeatable on a bike. Since then, he’s been a talisman for the Varese company, with a special edition ‘Ago’ version of the F4 1000 superbike appearing soon after the modern rebirth of MV Agusta.

And now there’s another limited edition ‘Ago’ MV Agusta, this time the gorgeous F3 800-powered Superveloce supersports triple.

Launched at the Misano round of MotoGP, the Ago Superveloce is a strictly-limited edition machine, with just 311 in total being built – one for each of his GP wins. In addition, 15 of those 311 will have even more special markings on a beautiful carbon fibre fuel cap plaque, to mark each of his 500 and 350 GP world titles (13 for Agusta, plus two with Yamaha).

The Ago is built around the 800 triple-powered Superveloce, with the latest 147bhp EU5 engine and an all-up dry weight of just 173kg. It’s been tricked up with a stack of saucy chassis parts – full Öhlins suspension front and rear, with a fully adjustable NIX 43mm USD fork and TTX 36 rear monoshock, plus Öhlins steering damper and CNC bracket. Wheels are Kineo wire-spoked parts, there’s a new forged alloy top yoke, Alcantara seat and carbon fibre everywhere: fairing sidepanels, tail unit, swingarm protectors, front mudguard and chain guards.

The Ago is also supplied complete with a full race kit, that takes peak power output up to 151bhp and shaves another 12kg off the dry weight (down to 163kg) thanks to a special three-into-three retro black Arrow race exhaust, race ECU (with fabulous ‘Ago’ detailing on the exit), carbon pillion seat cover, red handlebar grips (as used by Agostini on his GP bikes), plus all the other usual race kit treats.
