Ducati’s last line of V-twin powered supernaked machines, the 2009-2014 Streetfighter 1100 and 848 weren’t a massive sales success. But they were critically-acclaimed, with their superbike-derived Testastretta powerplants, high-spec chassis and advanced riding tech.

And now, Ducati’s launched another V-twin Streetfighter for 2022, this time with the current ‘V2’ branding, and powered by the 955cc Superquadro engine used in the Panigale V2. Amazingly enough, that 955cc motor now makes around the same power as the 1098-based engine used in 2009, putting out 153bhp vs 155bhp, despite having full Euro5 emissions compliance and 144cc less capacity.

The V2 Streetfighter uses a similar chassis design to the current  V4 Streetfighter, with a monocoque aluminium frame, single-sided swingarm and minimalist bodywork. It borrows its electronic rider aids package from the Panigale V2 sportsbike, with a proper six-axis IMU unit that assists the wheelie, launch, slide, traction and ABS, as well as engine brake control and a standard up/down quickshifter. It’s all controlled via a 4.3” TFT LCD dashboard, and there’s an optional datalogging and Bluetooth phone link package too.

Suspension is base-model Streetfighter kit: a 43mm Showa Big Piston front fork, Sachs steering damper and Sachs rear shock with full adjustability, while the swingarm is 16mm longer than on the Panigale V2, for more stability under acceleration. All-up weight is decent: 177kg dry and 200kg ready to ride.

Ducati’s V4 Streetfighter range has been a big success for the firm – even though a 200bhp naked bike might seem like more than a touch of madness. Now though, the Bologna firm has dialled up the crazy even further with this, the limited-edition SP Sport production version of the Streetfighter V4.

It’s festooned with super-light components derived from the £86,000 Panigale V4 Superleggera, including the carbon-fibre split five-spoke wheels (which save 1.4kg), carbon-fibre aerodynamic wings and front mudguard, lithium ion battery and aluminium fuel tank.

The engine uses the 208bhp Stradale 1,103cc V4S engine, with a superbike-spec dry clutch unit and open carbon clutch cover. Brakes are Brembo Stylema R calipers up front, with a Brembo adjustable radial master cylinder and 330mm discs, and the suspension is the Öhlins EC2.0 semi-active electronic suspension system as seen on the Streetfighter V4S.

The electronic suspension is matched with a full electronic rider aids package, with six-axis IMU-assisted traction, wheelie, launch and slide control, as well as switchable cornering ABS and up/down quickshifter.

The new SP Streetfighter weighs just 177kg dry, or 196kg ready-to-ride, which is around 3kg lighter than the stock Streetfighter V4S, making it the most extreme super-naked ever built by Ducati. It comes in one colour: a matt black ‘winter test’ scheme with brushed aluminium tank highlights and red/white/green decals on the wings and other body panels.

The price is steep: £28,495, or £7,500 more than the 2021 Streetfighter V4S, which is a fairly big premium for the carbon wheels, uprated brakes, Euro5 engine and other mods. Limited edition Ducatis are usually a decent investment though…
