A brief overview of Ducati

The Ducati brothers started their passion for motorbike manufacturing in 1949 with the development of a powered bicycle. The engine placed on the bicycle was named “Cucciolo” (Italian for “Puppy”), as it described the distinct noise of the engine. Since then, the bikes have developed into motorbikes and have only grown stronger in style, speed and sound.

To make it a little easier to differentiate, we’ve broken down the Ducati models and engine types.

Ducati motorbikes:

  • Monster: 696, 796, 821, 1200
  • Multistrada: 1200, 1200s
  • Diavel: Cromo, Carbon, Strada
  • Superbike: 899 Panigale, 1199 Panigale S and R
  • Hypermotard: Hypermotard SP, Hyperstrada
  • Streetfighter: 848

Ducati engines:

  • Desmodue: Desmondromic two-valve, air-cooled, 60° included valve angle (Monster 696/796)
  • Testastretta 11°: Desmo four-valve, liquid-cooled, 11° valve overlap angle (Streetfight 848, Hypermotorad/Hyperstrada, Monster 821)
  • Testastretta 11° DS: Desmo four-valve, liquid-cool, 11° valve overlap angle, dual ignition (Multistrada 1200 DS, Monster 1200, Diavel)
  • Superquadro: Desmo four-valve, liquid-cooled (1199 Panigale, 899 Panigale)

Whether you want a lightweight bike for nipping into town or a super-powerful bike with extremely high-top speeds and lots of power, Ducati can offer it.

All Ducati bikes rely on the Desmodronic valve control, which eliminates the springs typically used when valves are closed, allowing for exact and efficient valve control for all engine speeds.
