BMW R1200S Bike Overview
Classed as a luxury sports motorcycle, the BMW R1200S is the predecessor of the popular R1100S. BMW shaved 13kg off the weight, improved compression ratio and a new trellis-type frame, all of these improvements made of slick handling, better braking and greater ground clearance to name but a few.
Like most BMW models, the R1200S factory options include front and rear Ohlins shock absorbers, lightweight Akrapovic muffler, heated grips and switchable ABS.

It does everything i want ,very well. It's individuality.
To be a bit more pillion and luggage friendly.
This one of the best bikes I've owned ,love it.From riders position very comfortable for my size. Pillion not the best bike for distance travelling.
Not as well built as previous BMW's I've owned, paint and bolts finish not the best. Bikes been faultless apart from duff battery caused bit of a problem.
Brakes are well up to the job. Have fitted high quality pads fitted. ABS can be switched off if required.
Only down side it is a bit heavy when maneuvering, but brilliant when underway. Handling is solid and well planted.
For an old air-cooled twin it's brilliant.
Much better on fuel than most of my friends more modern bikes. Rate this bike as one of the best I've owned. Also not many of this model about, only had 2 year run.
Engine. Wow. I like the design (although admittedly polarizing) – not your everyday's sight on bike meets. Exotic touch, you don't see this bike everyday. It is the predecessor of the HP2 Sport, after all.
ABS for racing/ track days, but you can switch it off. Luggage capability limited, but it is designed as a sports bike, so I guess you know this before buying.
Double sparks per cylinder gives you a smooth fueling (compared to the 1100 generation) with 213kg wet it's lightweight for a BMW.
You better hold onto the handlebars when you surpass the 5500 revs. It's like someone gives you a kick in the back. Incredible acceleration up until over 8000 revs (peak power 122 bhp)
BMW - expensive if you can service it at the franchised dealer. But lots of things can be done by yourself. Sports touring I get a consumption of 45mpg.
Overall good build quality, No mechanical problems so far (30000 km)
Great braking. Optional ABS can be switched off, which is necessary on track days - if you brake (too) hard, it may unexpectedly open and gives you a heart attack as the curb quickly approaches. But for this to happen you really need to be on racing mindset, never happened to me in touring settings, ABS is just right in these occasions.
