Anglo/Indian bike brand finally releases full tech details and pricing on its new 206bhp 1200cc V-4 flagship superbike
We’ve been waiting on this for a while: it’s the full tech spec, price and availability of the full range of Norton Manx R faired superbikes. And the firm has gone in hard, with a premium lineup of no less than four versions, with varying levels of tech, chassis kit and price.

There’s the base Manx R with cast wheels and conventional suspension, costing £20,250, the fancier Manx R Apex with semi-active suspension and forged wheels at £24,750, then the ’Signature’ edition which adds carbon-fibre single-seat bodywork and Rotobox carbon wheels.

Finally there’s a limited-edition First Edition bike, of which just 150 will be made, with titanium fasteners, unique colours and finish, embroidered seat and a ‘POA’ price on application price tag… And they’re all in production now, with delivery of the first bikes planned for next month (June 2026).

The heart of the matter is the engine, a 206bhp 1200cc V-4 unit, which the firm says is all-new. It has the same basic layout and architecture as the old V4SV powertrain, but every component is new according to Norton. Brian Gillen, Norton’s chief technical officer said, “At the very beginning of the Manx R project we set out to exceed uncompromising performance targets.

Going beyond the typical engineering-led approach, we meticulously defined ‘Norton-ness’, the unique parameters which would bring the soul of the Manx R to life. By utilising the latest design and development tools, conducting the engineering to the highest standards and engaging a wide range of test riders, we are convinced that we have built a class-leading superbike that sets new standards for the rider experience.”

A lot of chat, and we’ll see how it transfers to a riding experience soon. But Gillen is a man who knows how to make a decent bike, and his involvement with Norton has encouraged a lot of observers.
The engine is a little under-tuned for its capacity. Ducati’s 1,103cc V-4 Desmosedici engine makes 216bhp@13,500rpm in current Panigale V4S road bike form, so the Norton’s 206bhp at 11,500rpm from a larger 1200cc capacity is a little conservative by comparison.

Norton says this is on purpose though, with the aim being a stronger, torquier power curve, and the Manx R does have around 10Nm more peak torque than the Ducati. As another comparison, BMW’s M1000RR makes 212bhp@14,500rpm from just 999cc with a necessarily-peakier, lower-torque configuration.

The Norton motor is a sweet-looking unit nevertheless. The 72° V-angle makes for a more compact installation, but does mean it needs a balancer shaft setup. It has a conventional DOHC four-valve per cylinder top end, with chain-driven cams and an idler gear. The inlet valves are titanium, bore and stroke is 82×56.8mm, and there’s a chunky 14:1 compression ratio.

The engine management has two injectors per cylinder, ride-by-wire throttle and split throttle operation on front and rear cylinder banks for improved control and feel. The exhaust system has two catalytic convertors and three lambda sensors to optimise the emissions performance. Gearbox is six-speed with a slipper/assist wet clutch.
The chassis is conventional enough, with a cast aluminium frame, single-sided swingarm, and the choice of passive or semi-active Marzocchi suspension. Brakes are Brembo Hypure calieprs up front, with 320mm discs, and the wheels range from normal cast aluminium on the base bike through Oz forged aluminium on the Apex to Rotobox carbon fibre wheels on the top-end versions.

The design is growing on us: the full fairing is sleek and futuristic, and there’s a heap of high-tech add-ons, including keyless ignition, large 8” LCD dash, and top-end Bosch IMU-assisted rider aids.

We’ll be riding the new Manx R next week, so will be finding out much more then. In the meantime, here’s the full tech spec and equipment details on all four versions to geek out over…
