2025 Triumph Scrambler 400 XC

Published: July 10, 2025

Triumph’s small-bore 400cc single models have been a bit of a surprise hit for the firm. Launched in the summer of 2023, the entry-level machines, made in partnership with the Bajaj firm from India, have hit the top of the sales charts, and opened up a whole new sector for Triumph – previously a bastion of big-bore biking.

And now there’s a new version to join the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X in the UK market. The 2025 Scrambler 400 XC is a slightly higher spec variant of the dirt variant, with extra premium parts and extra off-road ability, which has been available in other countries for a while now.

It’s based on the same basic engine and chassis package as the existing bikes, so you have the TR series engine, making a solid 39bhp with all the latest tech: ride-by-wire throttle, Euro5+ emissions, six speed gearbox and slipper/assist clutch. That solid little powertrain is bolted into a conventional steel tube frame with aluminium swingarm and rear monoshock suspension, plus a bolt-on rear subframe.

The running gear is where the XC has been updated though. The main difference, and most obvious is the wheels: the cast aluminium parts of the Scrambler X are replaced by side-laced wire-spoked hoops, using Excel aluminium rims and tubeless Metzeler Karoo rubber. The sizes are the same – 100/90 19 front and 140/80 18 rear, which gives a decent compromise between road and mild dirt use.

The other change is to the bodywork: the XC has a high-level ‘beak’ front mudguard (though it also keeps a smaller road-friendly lower fender too, and it also has a neat little flyscreen above the round headlamp.

The suspension and brakes are pretty much as you were: USD Big Piston front forks and piggyback reservoir rear monoshock, with preload adjustment out back only, and 150mm travel both ends, plus ByBre disc brakes both ends.

Add in the same basic rider aids package – switchable traction control and ABS – and you have a smart looking machine priced at £6,545 (a £700 premium over the basic Scrambler 400 X).

Paul Stroud, chief commercial officer at Triumph Motorcycles said: “The Triumph Scrambler 400 XC has been a huge hit with customers in India and there is clear demand for this model across the rest of the world too.

With improved off-road capability and Scrambler attitude, plus three new, stylish colour schemes, we hope this model will appeal to even more riders, further enhancing and extending the appeal of the Triumph brand for the next generation.”
