KTM seems to be getting back on its feet, after a hefty cash injection from its Indian partner Bajaj, and the factory in Mattighofen now back in full production since July 28th 2025.

It seems likely that the Austrian brand will have to work to regain confidence with customers and suppliers though – and that will take time, and some solid new bike designs.

These two 2026 models are the first new machines seen since the firm’s financial collapse at the end of last year, and they look like classic KTM kit. There are two new 690 single-cylinder bikes, the Enduro R aimed at pure off-road work, and the SMC R supermoto race-replica.

Both bikes, according to KTM, have had a slew of updates that boost both their off-road capability and on-road refinement. At the heart of the new range is the latest Euro 5+ compliant LC4 693cc single-cylinder engine, which has been updated with a revised crankcase, clutch, and stator cover, along with a redesigned lubrication system for enhanced reliability and improved performance.

Power is a chunky 78bhp@8,000rpm with 73Nm of torque at 6,750rpm – solid numbers, and up a few bhp on the old bike – nice.
On the Enduro R, you have a new 4.2 inch full-colour TFT display with a horizontal ‘letterbox’ aspect ratio, plus redesigned switchgear, a USB-C charging port, and an LED headlight.

On the rider aids front, there’s updates to the Cornering ABS, Cornering MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control), plus an all-new Dynamic Slip Adjust (available in the optional RALLY Ride Mode) to provide real-time, terrain-adaptive traction control. Ergonomically sharper bodywork and updated suspension components add comfort and feedback on both trail and tarmac.

On the hooligan-friendly 690 SMC R – long the benchmark in the supermoto world – KTM says the entire bike has been sharpened even further. A new, aggressive design wraps around the frame, emphasising KTM’s race-bred DNA. As with the ENDURO R, the updated LC4 engine delivers increased performance and efficiency, while refined suspension tuning enhances road feedback and agility.

There’s the same engine updates and tech upgrades, including that full-colour 4.2 inch TFT display, upgraded switchgear, and lean-angle sensitive rider aids like Cornering ABS and Cornering MTC.

Selectable Ride Modes and customisable ABS Modes ensure that the bike can be tailored to every riding style—from city streets and backroads to full send at the track, while there’s easy smartphone connectivity via KTMConnect.

The 2026 KTM 690 ENDURO R and 2026 KTM 690 SMC R will be available for £10,499 on the road and are due to land in authorised KTM dealers in the UK from September 2025.
