Thirty years ago, we were all listening to big hits from the likes of The Spice Girls, Robson and Jerome, and Take That. The various catastrophes of the early 21st century – the global war on terror, financial crisis/credit crunch, total war in Europe – were all still to come. And the top-selling big sportsbike was Honda’s FireBlade CBR900RR. Amazing days.

1996 also marked the beginning of an incredible road racing career. Morecambe’s finest son, John McGuinness, lined up on the Glencrutchery Road for the first time at the 1996 TT. Since then, he’s amassed an incredible record on the Isle of Man, with 23 total TT wins including seven Senior TTs, matching the record of Mike Hailwood.

And if the new owners choose to, they can ride the first 37.75 miles on their bike around the TT course following the man himself: because the deal also includes an exclusive handover lap of the TT course with John McGuinness– an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The 2026 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP was the star of the Superbike show at the 2026 Isle of Man TT races, winning both the Superbike TT and the shortened Senior round under Dean Harrison. And in his 30th year of racing at the TT, John McGuinness MBE was honoured by Honda Racing UK with a racing livery that nodded all the way back to where it began.

The Honda RS250 he raced in 1996 displayed John’s career long sponsor and friend Paul Bird Motorsport, and the same distinctive green number board used on the 2026 bike is a period correct throwback to what was used in the lightweight class in 1996.
