Wild 212bhp luxury supernaked gets engine, chassis and cosmetic updates

2021 MV Agusta RUSH

We get to write about all sorts of bikes here at Devitt – some of them practical, useful everyday machines – some of them less so. This – the MV Agusta RUSH – definitely falls into the latter category. It’s a super-luxury, super-performing, super-audacious super-naked machine, and sits head and shoulders above just about everything else out there.

The ‘basics’ are fancy enough – you get the 212bhp 998cc superbike engine from the F4 in a hybrid steel tube/aluminium cast swingarm plate frame, plus a single-sided aluminium swingarm. From there, everything just gets more and more tasty: Öhlins electronic suspension front and rear, Brembo Stylema brake calipers, forged aluminium rear wheel with carbon fibre aero-disc and a Kineo spoked front rim, plus a full suite of high-end electronics accessed via a 5.5” TFT colour LCD screen.

The styling is something else though. It’s the work of a Brit in fact – English designer Adrian Morton (probably best known for the Benelli Tornado) came up with the radical looks, which are somewhere between a top fuel dragster, an F1 car and a stealth fighter jet. Details like the rear light, the aerodynamic disc over the rear wheel, the four-into-four stock exhaust and the yellow paint highlights all add up to a pretty stunning piece of design.

The RUSH first appeared at Milan in 2019, but for 2021 it’s had a makeover, with this second generation version adding revised primary drive gearing, altered valve timing, DLC-coated valve buckets, and new valve guides. The exhaust is redesigned too, and there are new settings for the suspension, plus an updated cornering ABS module. The engine still makes 212bhp@13,000rpm at the crankshaft, but is now Euro5 emissions compliant.

Dry weight is 186kg, but if you add the parts from the supplied race kit, it drops to 184kg. That race kit is a work of art in itself – you get an SC exhaust, race ECU, Galfer race discs, lever guards, pillion seat cover and loads more, all in a sweet wooden box done up like an armaments supply case.

The 2021 RUSH is limited to just 300 units, all numbered on the rear wheel aero-disc and on a plaque.
