MV Agusta Turismo Veloce (2021) Review

Published: April 15, 2021

Italian exotic bike maker updates Turismo Veloce sporty touring bike for 2021

MV Agusta Turismo Veloce Lusso

If you were thinking of buying a practical, long-distance touring bike, MV Agusta might not be the first brand you’d think of. But the Varese firm actually produces an excellent sporty tourer – the Turismo Veloce 800 (TV800), using a retuned version of Agusta’s 800 inline triple engine.

That torquey motor powers a handsome chassis, with typical MV design and looks, which provides great comfort and solid mile-munching abilities. Factory fit hard luggage, protective bodywork, high-end rider aids and touring kit is all present and correct. And on the Lusso and RC versions, you get electronic semi-active suspension which gives the best of both worlds: plush, compliant damping for cruising comfort, and sharper suspension response for when things speed up.

For 2021, MV Agusta had to revamp the Turismo Veloce to meet the new Euro5 emissions regulations, so it’s had a similar upgrade as seen on the Super Veloce, Dragster and Brutale 800s. DLC-coated valve gear, revised bottom end bearings, new exhaust and different intake manifold, plus high pressure injectors all give similar power as before, but with more torque in the midrange (a claimed 12 per cent boost), all while meeting the new emissions rules.

There’s a new IMU (inertial measurement unit) assisting the cornering ABS and traction control functions, and cruise control and up/down quickshifter make long journeys easier. Distance work and urban riding is even easier on the SCS (Smart Clutch System) version of the bike, which uses the Rekluse company’s centrifugal semi-automatic clutch. The system automatically engages and disengages the clutch when you start and stop, using centrifugal forces, but retains the lever for manual control when desired.

The Sachs ‘skyhook’ semi-active suspension system has been refined on the Lusso version, with better comfort and road-holding, while the base ‘Rosso’ version of the Turismo Veloce sticks with fully-adjustable conventional suspension.

The seat height has been reduced, and riding position tweaked for more comfort, and a bigger windscreen keeps more of the wind and weather off on long runs.

Finally, the Turismo Veloce also gets the new, larger, 5.5” TFT LCD dashboard as seen on the rest of the 2021 range, with more screen area for easier control of all the riding functions. There’s a sat-nav function, Bluetooth connectivity and a GPS-equipped anti-theft tracker all built in too.

The Turismo Veloce 800 comes in four variants – the Lusso (luxury) version, the Lusso SCS with the automatic clutch, the flash RC SCS (Reparto Corse, race department), and the Rosso base variant.

MV Agusta Turismo Veloce Rosso

The Rosso has almost all the tech and performance built in, only missing the electronic suspension, while the RC and Lusso SCS come with side panniers supplied.

EU price for the Rosso base bike is from €15,400, the Lusso is from €19,500, the SCS starts at €22,600 and the RC SCS is from €23,600. More info on UK price and availability as we get it.
