DEVITT TURNS EMPLOYEES INTO EASY RIDERS
Romford, 26 September 2005 – Most motorcycle
insurance brokers are happy enough to train their employees in insurance
regulation and customer service, but Romford-based Devitt has gone
one step further, it’s taken the unusual decision to train
its employees in how to ride motorcycles.
Currently 27 Devitt employees are undergoing Compulsory Basic Motorcycle
Training (CBT) – and the company is set to offer the course
to all new joiners from September onwards. This is in addition to
the 40 employees who have already completed the training.
CBT is a course of compulsory basic motorcycle training which must
be completed before a learner moped or motorcycle rider is allowed
to ride unaccompanied on the road with L-plates (or D-plates in
Wales). CBT was introduced in 1990 to help reduce the very high
accident rate among inexperienced motorcyclists.
Explaining the rationale behind the broker’s decision, Devitt’s
Head of Marketing Chris Bottle, himself a biker, said:
“If you are going to deliver quality service to motorcyclists,
we believe you can do a much better job and have a greater understanding
of what bikers need if you have ridden a bike yourself. It will
mean our employees can be more confident when they talk to bikers
and they’ll be able to offer a more tailored service.”
“Furthermore our employees enjoy taking the course; it builds
morale and relationships between different departments.”
Emma Valsaycer, Devitt’s Learning and Development Trainer
has taken her CBT:
“I really enjoyed the training and I am glad I gave it a
go even though I found it tough. It was fun and I was still smiling
at the end of a day. I’m a car driver but taking the course
gave me a real respect for how hard it can be to ride a bike safely.”
Beth White, Devitt’s Assistant Marketing Manager who has
also undertaken her CBT said:
“I was a great day and it taught me that riding a bike is
much more difficult than it looks.”
Devitt is currently recruiting for Sales and Customer Service advisors
to join its Romford office. For further details, call the company’s
recruitment hotline on 0845 304 2010 between 9am-7pm Monday-Friday.
