Motorcycle hire offers increasingly big opportunities as an additional revenue stream, but it can be a risky business. When you hand over the keys can you be sure that you’ll ever see the motorcycle again?

Devitt has been arranging Motorcycle Hire insurance for over 15 years and we are able to offer a scheme in conjunction with Hireguard which can provide peace of mind for those involved in the hiring of motorcycles.

The HireGuard scheme automatically provides a screening service for each hire. This will ease your concerns as to whether a potential hire is safe to proceed.

If after successful screening the motorcycle is stolen by the hirer then the policy will pay 75% of its market value providing you have chosen comprehensive or Third Party Fire and Theft cover.

Once you have been allocated your PIN and account number, the operation is simplicity itself. You do not have to make declarations to us, neither do we need to see copies of your hire forms. Only in the event of a claim would you need to provide a copy of the hire form pertinent to that hire.

HireGuard Motorcycle Hire - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the screening affect the insurance?

The hire insurance is only valid after an authorisation number has been given. This should be entered on to the hire agreement form.

Will I be covered for hiring motorcycles to Non-UK residents in the UK?

The policy can cover motorcycles hired to foreign nationals, including visitors from the USA and Japan.

Will I be covered for UK residents who want to take the hire motorcycles abroad?

For a small weekly additional premium, the policy can cover UK residents wishing to take your motorcycles to the Continent.

How does the process work?

When you hire out a motorcycle you will need to make a telephone call to HireGuard quoting your account number and PIN. They will then ask for details of the motorcycle and of the hirer. An authorisation number will then be given to validate the hire insurance.

At the end of each month, a full statement of the premium owed will be sent to you and two weeks after that the premium owed will be collected from your bank account by direct debit.

Will the policy cover all motorcycles?

The policy will cover the majority of motorcycles. If you require a full list, please contact us.

What type of cover does the insurance offer?

You choose at the outset whether you have the policy on a Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft or Third Party Only.

Can I hire motorcycles to couriers?

If required the policy will also cover use by couriers, although the cover for such use is restricted to Third Party Only and to riders aged 23 and over.
