SUPERSTOCK CUP 2007:
THRUXTON, APRIL 13-15
Solid Performance at Thruxton
“I could not believe how different the bike felt compared
to last weekend. I couldn't feel a thing through the front end of
the machine all weekend, despite changing the settings in virtually
every session.
I ride very hard on the front end and the lack of feel from the
front suspension meant that I couldn't push as hard as I wanted
to at any point. In the end I raced with what I felt was the best
settings we’d tried, but I knew that I would struggle over
the 14 lap distance. In the end it was a case of damage limitation
as far as the championship was concerned.
I had to get off the line well and get in front of as many guys
as possible in the early stages, which would then force them do
the hard work of trying to pass me as the race progressed. I knew
that my times would slow as the tyres started to go off, but I just
had to protect my lines and work as hard possible on the brakes
to stop them from getting by. I finished 12th overall.
I've dropped to 4th place in the championship, but I'm only two
points off 2nd place. It’s early days so I'm still in with
a shout. That’s racing - you have good days and you have bad
days, but I now aim to come back even stronger at Silverstone in
a fortnight's time.”
